Montgomery County Records 154 New COVID-19 Cases Monday, 13 Deaths Since Friday

Since Friday, Feb. 5, the Maryland Department of Health has reported 593 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County — 195 Saturday, 244 Sunday and 154 Monday. The county’s cumulative case count is 60,633.

Montgomery County recorded 13 new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, Feb. 5 — four Saturday, four Sunday and five Mondaybringing the death toll to 1,303.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 4,82% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.05 from Sunday’s average rate of 4.87%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 18 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions. This is the third straight day the remains below 5% since Nov. 30.

The county has received 37,900 first doses of the Moderna vaccine and administered 80.1% of those doses as of Sunday, Feb. 7.  Currently, the county is vaccinating, by appointment only. those in Priority Group 1A (all three tiers) and Priority Group 1B (tier 1 – adults age 75 and older). Vaccine pre-registration for priority groups 1B and 1C is available now.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,234 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 69,779 cases.

Somerset County has the highest per capita cases with 90.2 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 89.7 cases per 1,000 residents.

Since Friday, Feb. 5, the state recorded 3,969 new infections — 1,500 Saturday, 1,566 Sunday, and 903 Monday. The state’s cumulative case count is 364,553.

On Monday, the state reported 1,413 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus. COVID-19 related hospitalizations have plateaued at about 1,400.

Maryland recorded 84 new coronavirus-related fatalities since Friday, Jan. 29 — 41 Saturday, 20 Sunday and 23 Monday bringing the death toll to 7,193.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 5.67% for positive COVID-19 tests Monday. This is a decrease of 0.06 from Sunday’s rate of 5.73%. This is the 11th straight day the rate remained below 6%.
