Montgomery County Food Council Announces Eat Local Challenge

The Montgomery County Food Council calls all residents to participate in a quarterly contest that challenges residents to cook with fresh and local ingredients.

The Eat Local ChallengeCounty residents can submit an original recipe featuring at least three of the ingredients below:

Eggs – Aliabaad Farms in Sharpsburg and Rocklands Farm in Poolesville;

Dress It Up Dressing- found at local Dawson’s Market, Whole Foods Markets, MOM’s Organic Market in Rockville and Relay Foods;

Lamb- Fox Hollow Farm in Gaithersburg and Rocklands Farm in Poolesville;

Chicken Thighs- East Rivendell Farm in Damascus and Fox Hollow Farm in Gaithersburg;

Chives – Aliabaad Farms in Sharpsburg;

Radishes – Rock Hill Orchard in Mount Airy;

Honey – Comus Market in Dickerson and Heyser Farms in Colesville;

Beets – Aliabaad Farms in Sharpsburg.

According to a press release, recipes will be featured on the Food Council website, Facebook page, among other prizes. Each submission must include name, city or town, step-by-step recipe with a full ingredient list, and a few sentences on why you choose to eat and buy local.

Recipes will be tested and judged by local chefs and culinary students. The winner will be selected based on taste, creativity, and use of ingredients.

Submissions are due May 1. The winner will be announced June 1.
