Montgomery County Firefighters Work to Extinguish Mulch and Yard Debris Fire at Aspen Landscape Contractors (VIDEOS & PHOTOS)
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services are continuing to work on extinguishing a mulch fire, which began over the weekend at the Aspen Landscape Contractors, Inc. located on the 15700 block of New Hampshire Ave. The right lane at Southbound New Hampshire Ave. at McNeil Lane is blocked due to fire department operations.
According to Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer, residents living near the landscaping company noticed smoke coming from the company lot and notified Fire and Rescue Services on the night of Dec. 5th. Firefighters assessed the scene and determined that there was a contained fire on a two-acre, 50- feet high pile of mulch and yard debris, Piringer said.
After monitoring the fire overnight, firefighters worked all day Sunday, Dec. 6th on efforts to put out the fire, using “heavy duty” equipment, including bulldozers and foam, Piringer said. In the last update from MCFRS, firefighters are back on scene today, working on completely extinguishing the fire.
“There is no hazard to nearby neighborhoods or houses,” Piringer said.
