Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner’s Press Conference (Video)
Montgomery Council Council President Roger Berliner met with the media on June 18 and transportation issues and his tree trimming bill were foremost on his mind. During the briefing he also noted that Montgomery County supports a gas tax and he’d like to see the Governor include it on the agenda if a special session on gambling is called. Take a listen.
Transportation is so vital to the health of our county. Absolutely EVERYONE travels. But if we cannot move easily around the county (because we are stuck in congestion), then everyone suffers. It is imperative that we move forward with building the Purple Line, the Corridor Cities Transitway, and the proposed Rapid Transit system. And we call upon the state to do the right thing and take on transportation funding (the gas tax) this summer. We cannot simply sit back and wait for “the right time” or convenient time. Now is the time to make the tough decisions. We will back you.
Even if you personally don’t use transit, the fact that other people find transit affordable and convenient directly benefits you. Can you imagine our roadways if the 3/4 million people who ride MetroRail daily joined the ranks of drivers on the road???!! More and better transit is a benefit for everyone.
Thank you, Councilmember Berliner, for your stalwart support of the importance of transit and transportation for the county.
