Montgomery College Will Stay Mostly Virtual Until Spring Break 2021

Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne Pollard announced Monday that instruction will remain mostly virtual until at least the end of spring break in March 2021.

Pollard said in a statement that summer enrollment shows that students like the virtual model and the flexibility it offers. Spring classes will be seven weeks long instead of 15. After the first seven weeks is spring break, and Pollard said the college will re-evaluate the situation around that time.

“We will re-evaluate closer to spring break, with preparations already in progress for a return to face-to-face instruction, if health conditions allow,” she said. “In this critical time, the College must ensure that it will offer courses in formats that attract students and offer them maximum flexibility and support for success.”

Most classes this fall at Montgomery College will be taught online, however some programs like automotive technology and biotechnology may have very limited on-campus lab sessions. The semester begins Aug. 31 and ends Dec. 20. Precautions are in place for students and staff who need to come to campus, such as social distancing, fewer students in classes, making masks mandatory and enhanced cleaning.

The college already announced that the winter session, which begins Dec. 21 and ends Jan. 22, 2021, will be virtual.
