Montgomery College Breaks Ground on New Student Center
Dozens of Montgomery County leaders, students and staff, gathered at Montgomery College Rockville Campus to break ground for a new student services center early Thursday.
The 130,000 square-foot building will provide a centralized location for all student services at the campus, according to a news release.
“We want students to get good guidance quickly, access financial aid, and register for classes that match their academic and professional goals. This building is designed with precisely this process in mind,” Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard, president of Montgomery College, said in a statement.
The building will provide students with easy access to the most frequently visited resource centers including admissions, registration, financial aid, disability support services and veterans’ services. In addition, the Office of Students Affairs’ deans, School of Education, the school’s Safety and Security Office, Office of the Vice President and Provost along with the Facilities Office, are expected to be housed in the service center.
“I am pleased that the student services center is now shovel-ready,” Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, said during the ceremony. “This fantastic building will give students an easier and supportive launch into their college career.”
The Student Services Center was funded with support from the state and the county. It was designed by Cho Benn Holback + Associates, A Quinn Evans Company. The general contractor for the project is Grunley Construction Company, Inc.
