Montgomery Becomes Battleground for Congressional Districts
A proposed redrawing of the boundaries of the 6th Congressional District has been released and a public hearing has been set for Tuesday.
The hearing will be 7 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown.

Under the existing boundaries, about half of Montgomery County is in the 6th District reaching south of Rockville. The new district lines also has about half the county, but it includes only the rural northern tier.
In November, a panel of federal judges deemed the boundaries of the 6th District were drawn to favor Democrats and violated the constitution, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Although other Maryland districts have been ridiculed as gerrymandering, the court case only considered the 6th District. A committee seated by Gov. Larry Hogan had only the legal obligation to redraw the 6th, which also altered the boundaries of the 8th District.
Any new map would be used in the 2020 election. Another new map, based on new census data, will be used in the 2022 election.
