
MoCo Recreation Has Openings for Recreation Specialists
Montgomery County Recreation has two current vacancies for Recreation Specialists working with a senior population. The closing date is December 23, 2014. Using the link, apply under Job IRC 15883
(1) One position requires working with a multilingual community. The successful candidate will be required to pass an advanced proficiency second language/English language examination assessing the following skills: oral communication, reading comprehension, interpreting and translating text from the second language to the English language and vice versa. Duties to include: planning, developing, organizing, directing and evaluating a wide variety of multi-lingual programs for diverse seniors at local community recreation centers and senior program facilities.
This programming will include arts, entertainment, fitness and wellness. The employee’s areas of responsibility will be to plan, organize, develop, schedule, administer, and evaluate recreation programs. This work involves managing a variety of program elements for appropriate age participants and hiring, training and supervising part-time and volunteer staff. Employee also maintains an active working relationship with other agencies, schools and special interest groups; coordinates recreation programs; reviews and evaluates programs and makes recommendations to improve and expand programs; prepares operating budget for approval by the supervisor and operates within the framework of the approved budget; plans and schedules for recreational personnel, volunteers, and facilities for senior programs. Effective oral and written skills are necessary. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining programs in CLASS, performing closeout responsibilities, internal and external customer service, preparing such paperwork as reports, timesheets, and marketing and communication tools.
(2) The second vacancy is for a full time Recreation Specialist to support Senior Center programming. This employee will be responsible for developing, organizing, planning and directing a Senior Community Recreation center. Responsibilities include maintaining the facility, developing programs and services in the following areas: planning and implementing programs and activities for adults 55 and over, special events, arts, entertainment and scheduling employees and volunteers, maintaining expenditures within budgetary constraints; providing oversight of the building; support to advisory committee; scheduling rental spaces; promoting the center and building rapport with community partners, non-profits and businesses that provide services to older individuals.

These position(s) may be underfilled at the Public Administrative Intern (PAI) level, grade 16. Salary: $39,932 – $65,561.

All assignments will have weekend and evening requirements to support program. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.
