Mikulski Releases Statement on Ben Carson Advocating for Religious Test
U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski has released the following statement in response to comments made by Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson advocating for a religious test for Presidential candidates:
“Dr. Carson’s remarks were outrageous and insulting. They fly in the face of the Constitution of the United States of America. Article VI of our Constitution says, ‘[N]o religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.’
“I support the Constitution. That’s why I urge Dr. Carson to withdraw his remarks or withdraw from the nominating process.”
