Metro Seeks Members for Riders Advisory Council

Montgomery County Metro riders can be candidates on the transit system’s volunteer council.

Metro is looking for at-large members as well as six individuals from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia to serve on the 21-member board.

Created in 2005, the Riders’ Advisory Council serves as an advocate for riders and advises the agency’s Board of Directors on issues that affect Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess service.

The council seeks input from a broad range of riders and organizations on budgetary and operational issues. Members represent a cross-section of Metro’s riders from around the region and includes people who use Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAcess, transit-dependent people, people with disabilities and people with different travel patterns.

Council members serve three-year terms and are required to regularly attend and participate in scheduled meetings. Council meetings are held once a month and are open to the public, in addition to committee meetings.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m., Nov. 10.

Metro’s Board of Directors will appoint the final candidates at its December meeting.

Metro employees, contractors and elected officials are not eligible to apply. All positions are unpaid.
