Metro Provides Travel Tips for July 4

Metro has advice to help riders navigate the rail system on July 4th for Independence Day. Several hundred thousand passengers are expected to take Metrorail to attend the fireworks display on the National Mall. No SafeTrack or weekend track work is scheduled for Monday, July 4.

Metrorail service will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight with near rush-hour service in the evening hours before and after the fireworks. Off-peak fares will be be in effect all day Monday.

The Smithsonian Station will be open, but the Mall entrance will become “entry-only” after 9:30 p.m. The Independence Avenue entrance will be available for both entry and exit throughout the entire day.

Metro advises passengers to avoid transfers and travel to a station on the same line as their starting point. Every line has a station near the National Mall.  Suggested stations include Archives for the Yellow and Green lines, Metro Center for the Red, Orange, Blue and Silver lines.
