Metro Delays & Track Work for August 2-4

Metro has scheduled service adjustments beginning at 10 p.m. on August 2 and continuing through system closing on August 4. Service on the Yellow and Green lines will operate on a regular weekend schedule, with the exception of a minor service adjustment affecting Greenbelt Station only. On the Red Line, trains will operate every 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the station; and buses will replace trains on a short segment of the Blue and Orange lines.

According to Metro press release:

Red Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: Every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.
  • Additional trains between Shady Grove & Farragut North: Service every 10 minutes 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Additional trains between Glenmont & Judiciary Square: Service every 10 minutes 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Orange Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between New Carrollton & Cheverly – Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend. (Normal service is every 12 minutes.)

Free shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly to allow for ongoing platform reconstruction at Deanwood and Minnesota Ave stations. Please add 15-20 minutes of travel time if using shuttle bus service.

Stations closed: Deanwood & Minnesota Ave

Change to last train time: The last train of the night will depart New Carrollton 50 minutes earlier than normal, at 1:46 a.m. on Friday/Saturday and at 10:46 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Between Largo Town Center & Benning Road – Every 15 minutes throughout the weekend. (Normal service is every 12 minutes.)

Change to last train time: The last train of the night will depart Largo Town Center 21 minutes earlier than normal, at 2:03 a.m. on Friday/Saturday and at 11:03 p.m. on Sunday.

Green Line trains will operate as follows:

Green Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave stations. (Regular intervals are every 12 minutes during daytime hours, and every 15-20 minutes at other times.)

During daytime hours, every other Green Line train will begin/end at College Park, rather than Greenbelt. Passengers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station only may experience a 12-minute wait for the next train.

Work Performed: Outside Greenbelt Station, crews will continue construction on a new test track to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series railcars.

Travel Tip: If you normally travel to or from Greenbelt Station, consider using College Park instead.
