MD SHA Begins Constructing Safety Modifcations on River Road Intersection (PHOTO)
The Maryland State Highway Administration recently began construction of safety modifications at the intersection of River Road and Braeburn Parkway. The intersection is the site of the Feb. 27th tragic road side accident where three members of a Whitman High School family were killed.
According to SHA officials, engineers analyzed the intersection in the spring for possible safety improvements and will be implementing the following modifications.
- Installing traffic-activated overhead flashing signs in both directions of River Road when vehicles turn left onto Braeburn Parkway
- Restricting Braeburn Parkway traffic in both directions to a right-only turn onto River Road
- Separating left-turning traffic from through traffic at the intersection
Bruce and Merrilees Electric Company is the SHA contractor for the $300,000 project. Construction began on August 23rd and the project is expected to be completed by mid-fall. Crews may close one lane during off-peak hours during construction.
