MCPS Students Earn National Achievement Scholarships

Seven seniors from Montgomery County Public Schools have been selected as winners for the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

mcpsAccording to a news release, the selective scholarship competition recognizes African American high school seniors across the U.S. with outstanding academic achievement. About 150,000 students participated in the competition for these scholarships.

In September, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced 1,600 semifinalists in the competition, including 17 from MCPS.

The MCPS recipients are among 32 students in the state of Maryland who have been awarded scholarships. Approximately 800 seniors across the nation received this award.

The program was established in 1964 and has given more than $100 million in college scholarships for the past 50 years, according to a news release.

Winners are awarded $2,500 scholarships. Here’s a list of the 2015 MCPS winners:
