MCPS School Year Pushed Back to June 14

Montgomery County Public Schools’ latest school closure means the last day for students will be extended again.

“We will add another day to the end of the year according to our protocol,” MCPS Spokersperson Derek Turner, said. “This means school is extended to June 14.”

Mar. 2 marked the fourth weather-related closing this school year. June 12 was the original date scheduled for students to finish classes but was extended following a school closing on Feb. 7.

The 2017-2018 school calendar planned for two weather-related closures before having to tap into the district’s contingency plan.

MCPS has used two additional days beyond its original schedule so in the event of another school closing, here’s what to expect:

• If there are three more emergency weather closures, then the school year will be extended to June 15, 2018. (Note: By State law, MCPS cannot extend the school year past June 15).
• If there are four more emergency weather closures, then March 26, 2018 will be used as a make-up day (the first day of Spring Break).
• If there are five more emergency weather closures, then March 27, 2018 will be used as a make-up day (the second day of Spring Break).
