MCPS Leaders to Join Students on March to Close the Gap
Montgomery County Board of Education President Phil Kauffman, Vice President Patricia O’Neill and Superintendent Joshua P. Starr will join hundreds of MCPS students on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 1 p.m., for the first “March to Close the Gap.” The March is being organized by the Minority Scholars Program, a school-based program that seeks to improve the academic achievement and educational opportunities for students across the district.
The idea for the march was developed during the Minority Scholars Program’s annual retreat as a way to bring community attention to the need to close the achievement and opportunity gap.
WHAT: Minority Scholars Program “March to Close the Gap”
WHEN: Sunday, April 27, 2014, 1-3 p.m.
WHERE: The march begins at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville, and will proceed to the Montgomery County Courthouse at the Rockville Town Center.
WHO: Students from several MCPS high schools will be joined by Montgomery County Board of Education Members—President Philip Kauffman, Vice President Patricia O’Neill, Shirley Brandman, Judith Docca, Rebecca Smondrowski, Christopher Barclay, Michael Durso, Student Member of the Board Justin Kim, and Superintendent of Schools Joshua P. Starr.
