MCPS Board of Education Sends a Message About Inclusion

mcpsThe Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) has a message for the new year: Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is a safe and welcoming environment for every student to learn.

This message comes after an increase in hate-based incidents around the community that have also affected the schools, according to the BOE’s statement.

“This message was sent from the Board of Education to reassure BOE commitment with keeping our schools safe and welcoming,” said Melissa Rivera, a spokesperson for MCPS. “The BOE wanted to start the new year with a solid commitment to MCPS’s core values of respect and equity.”

MCPS staff says they haven’t received any information about new incidents in recent weeks.
