Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will kick off the 2012-2013 school year with its annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, August 25, from 11 – 2 p.m. at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, in Rockville.

This free event, coordinated by the Division of Family and Community Partnerships, will feature something for everyone—from information and resources for parents, to children’s activities and entertainment for all.

Highlights of the day will include student and community performance groups, appearances by local celebrities and health screenings. MCPS staff members will be available to answer questions and provide information about a variety of topics, including Curriculum 2.0, consortia and magnet programs, classroom instruction and much more. Representatives from community and county organizations also will be present, including the Department of Health and Human Services, Montgomery County Public Libraries, Montgomery College, College Savings Plans of Maryland, Montgomery County Council of PTAs, and the City of Rockville.

Free backpacks and school supplies will be available to MCPS students that need them. Gift certificates and prizes will be given out throughout the day and free refreshments will be provided.

The Back-to-School Fair is made possible through generous donations from sponsors including Kaiser Permanente, Montgomery College, Party Plus and the Washington Talent Agency.
