MCPD to Host Blood Drive in August
The American Red Cross is calling for blood donors due to an emergency need. According to the Red Cross, more blood is being used per day than is being donated. Chief medical officer Dr. Pampee Young, spoke about the necessity of blood donors.
“Each day, kids battling cancer, accident victims being raced to the emergency room and mothers experiencing complicated childbirths rely on lifesaving blood,” he said. “We need the public’s help today to ensure we have enough blood to meet these dire needs.”

Though all blood types are requested, the Red Cross is especially looking for type O blood.
“Type O negative is the universal blood type and what emergency room personnel reach for when there is no time to determine the blood type of patients in the most serious situations,” said the organization in a press release.
According to the Red Cross website, “Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.”
Montgomery County residents can donate on August 7 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the J. Thomas Manger Public Safety Headquarters alongside the Montgomery County Department of Police.
