MCPD Hosts Its Annual Blood and Food Drive (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

Montgomery County Police Department and American Red Cross teamed up again for the annual blood and food drive on June 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Public Safety Headquarters in Gaithersburg.

Donors also had a chance to donate non-perishable food items that will go to the Captain Joseph Mattingly Food Pantry in Wheaton.

“We think it’s an important part to reaching out to the community, but also it’s a chance for government employees, public safety employees, to give back,” said Capt. Paul Starks, Montgomery County Police spokesperson.

Approximately 100 donations were expected for this year’s blood drive. Donors could register online but walk-ins were also welcome.

“You never know when it’s going to be a need. You never know when that need is going to hit home,” Starks said.

According to police, local businesses such as Bruster’s Ice Cream, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Chick-fil-A of Kentlands provided food and food coupons to donors throughout the day.
