MCM’s Youth Camps Go Virtual

Although MCM facilities are closed to the public, the essence of summer camp at MCM will remain the same in the virtual space. Jasmine White, MCM’s Director of Education and Community Engagement, said “Learning from professional media makers and getting access to new equipment and tools will continue to be part of the core experience for MCM campers. In the virtual setting, that means thinking outside of the box and our Multimedia Education Coordinator has done just that!” For the podcasting camp, MCM has purchased a versatile audio platform for crafting Podcasts and creating dynamic stories, Soundtrap. For video production, campers will receive their own smartphone video accessory kit. Prior to camp, youth will be mailed a flexible tripod, lavalier lapel microphone; and clip on ring light that they get to keep after camp. The size of camp sessions will also be capped at 12 to maximize the instructor youth interaction.

MCM will offer four one-week virtual camps for youth ages 12 and up to participate from the safety of their home. Camp days are structured with a morning and afternoon instructor-led Zoom session with a break for lunch and independent activity. The Podcasting camp is $175 and will be offered the week of July 13th and the week of July 27th. The Smartphone Video Production Camp, which includes its own video accessory kit, costs $235 and will be offered the week of July 20th and the week of August 3rd.
