MCDOT Receives $500K to Enhance Mobility for Seniors, Individuals with Disabilities
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has received $544,430 in federal funding to reduce monthly co-pays for the county’s Call-n-Ride participants.
Call-n-Ride is a taxi service for low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities. The two-year grant from the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments will allow MCDOT to reduce the monthly co-pay for program users, according to a news release.
The Call-n-Ride transportation program provided more than 120,000 rides in 2017. The lowest income program participants receive a $120 per month subsidy that is loaded onto a swipe card. The card can then be used for taxi service with all taxi providers in the County.
With the grant, participants co-payment will be reduced to $5.25 from $10.50
“I am very proud of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s efforts to seek ways to further enhance mobility for our older adults and persons with disabilities,” Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, said. “Access to transportation is a key element in Montgomery County’s Age-Friendly Initiative, which is enhancing opportunities for residents to thrive and achieve their full potential.”

Good afternoon, I was recently paying to put monies on my cnr cats and noticed we are still being charged the $10.50 for the $120.00 fare. How is this possible that mj mgmt and/or the cnr program is pocketing the extra monies that were suppose to be reduced for us disabled peoples?. I’d like to know when this on-line reduction is to take place. Thank you and feel free to contact me at the gmail account or #2404702922.
