MCDOT Extends Free Bikeshare and Electric Scooter Program for Essential Workers

Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation has extended the special programs with Capital Bikeshare and Lyft Electric Scooters offering free memberships for essential workers during the coronavirus crisis through May 31.

The memberships provide workers unlimited free rides for trips under 30 minutes. Capital Bikeshare will also continue to offer $1 trip fares for all riders, according to the county.

The programs were designed to help essential workers commute to and from work. Montgomery County residents who are essential workers and non-resident essential workers in Montgomery County can enroll for a free 30 day membership that includes Capital Bikeshare and Lyft electric scooters.

Employees or Employers can sign up anytime before May 31 for a free 30 day membership by emailing HeroBikes@Lyft.com.

Capital Bikeshare staff have been cleaning high contact surfaces on bikes and the vans used to transport the bikes. Staff are also using gloves when handling the bikes, according to the county.
