Maryland State Troopers Cite Thousands of Motorists Over Labor Day Weekend

photo Maryland State Police badgeUPDATED Maryland State police officers issued 6,221 citations and 5,777 warnings to motorists traveling on state roadways over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Of those stops, police said there were 110 driving under the influence arrests and over one thousand repair orders for defective vehicle equipment.

In Montgomery County, Maryland State police officers sent out a special enforcement team to focus on drunk driving. According to police, the team arrested ten drivers and issued more than 75 citations. Police said one of the drivers was a repeat offender.

According to a MDSP department news release, “these high visibility enforcement efforts reduce the number of aggressive driving, motor vehicle crashes in which speed, alcohol and other driving violations are contributing factors to crashes on Maryland roads.”

Troopers say they plan to continue these initiatives throughout the year.
