Maryland Public Schools Postpone Fall and Winter High School Sports Seasons

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSA) is postponing high school fall and winter sports season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement pertains to the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.

The decision was made together Maryland schools Superintendent Karen Salmon and the Marland Department of Health.

Sports played in the fall season are cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer and volleyball. Winter sports are basketball, indoor track and field, swimming and diving, and wrestling.

Last Tuesday the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), announced that it will cancel the fall sports season. In the announcement, the WCAC said they are exploring options for sports to return starting January 1, 2021. The conference represents 13 schools in the area, including three in Montgomery County.
