Maryland Flag at Half Staff for International Overdose Awareness Day
The Maryland flag will fly at half-staff Tuesday by order of Gov. Larry Hogan for International Overdose Awareness Day.

The day is a global event to raise awareness for overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths. There were 108 opioid drug overdose deaths in Montgomery County in 2020, which is an increase of 29% compared to 2019. Maryland ranked fourth in the U.S. for overdose deaths last year.
A candlelight vigil was held Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Memorial Plaza in Rockville. Residents and families remembered their loved ones lost to substance abuse. MyMCM’s Maryam Shahzad spoke with county officials and families at the vigil.
