Maryland COVID-19 Cases Near 85,000, Montgomery Cases Pass 17,000

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Monday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 17,164 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 144 from the 17,020 cases reported Sunday.

Since the first case in March, 748 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of three since Sunday. More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 707 residents, the second-highest number.

The positivity rate of 3.42% reported Monday is an increase of 0.11% since Sunday. This is the 13th straight day the rate remained below 4% in the county.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Monday morning, there have been 84,876 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 1,128 cases in the last 24 hours. Montgomery County makes up only 13% of the new cases statewide, down from a high of over 30% in May. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,315 Marylanders, six since Sunday.

Currently, 536 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is four fewer than Sunday. Statewide hospitalizations had risen 39% since July 13 when 386 patients were hospitalized.  Of the patients currently in the hospital, 145 are in intensive care, which is eight less than Sunday.

The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.61% Sunday, which is an increase of 0.14% from Sunday’s rate. The rate has remained below 5% for more than three weeks since June 26.

Statewide, a total of 25,550 cases and 1,357 deaths involve the state’s African American community.

Here are the statewide statistics as of Monday, July 27. The first column is for the number of cases. The next column is the number of deaths, which is in parentheses. The second number in that column is the number of probable deaths.
