Mandatory Election Training in Gaithersburg

If you are planning to run for office in the city of Gaithersburg this year, then you have to attend mandatory candidate training on July 18 or September 18 from 7:30 -9:30 p.m. at Gaithersburg City Hall, 31 South Summit Avenue. The terms of office for Mayor Sidney Katz and Council members Henry Marraffa, Jr. and Michael Sesma will expire in November.  The elected leaders each serve a four-year term.

Items to be discussed at the training session:

–City Elections Laws
–City Ethics Requirements
–Campaign Guidelines
–Electronic Filing

Gaithersburg Election Clerk Lauren Klingler said all candidates running in the upcoming Nov. 5 election are required to attend one of the two training dates.

Katz, who is running for re-election, said he plans to attend the July 18 session. Candidates have until Sept. 20 to formally file their paperwork for the city race.
