Man Sentenced for Fiery Death of Worker Hired to Build Tunnel Beneath His Bethesda Home

28-year-old Daniel Beckwitt has been sentenced to nine years behind bars for the 2017 fiery death of 21-year-old Askia Khafra; who Beckwitt hired to dig tunnels for a nuclear bunker underneath his Bethesda home.

While the defense argued that the incident was an accident due to a hoarded home, prosecutors say Beckwitt missed multiple opportunities to save Khafra’s life.

The victim’s family described Askia Khafra as an intelligent, caring young man with a whimsical smile whose life ended too soon.
