Man Gets Life in Murder of 72-Year-Old Woman

Kwasi Sadler | Montgomery County State’s Attorney

A 23-year-old man from Northeast Washington received a life sentence Wednesday for the death of a 72-year-old woman in Wheaton, State’s Attorney John McCarthy said.

Kwasi Sadler was convicted in the death of Linda Johnston, who was stabbed in her Arcola Avenue home Aug. 6, 2015, according to a statement by Montgomery County police at the time.

Sadler also pleaded guilty to home invasion, burglary, auto theft and unauthorized use of a credit card, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney. Judge Robert Greenberg ordered those prison terms to be served concurrently with his life sentence.

“This was a savage attack, injuries almost numbering over 50,” McCarthy said.

“It’s a very, very difficult case for us, and one of great importance because we want to make sure that seniors who live in this community can feel safe in their homes and that they are not subject to the kind of violence we saw take place with Ms. Johnston,” he said.
