Man Finds Parent’s Overdue Library Books 46 Years Later, Pays $1,500 Fine (VIDEO)

Forgetting to take a library book back on its due date and paying the accumulated fine for the extra days it was borrowed is something staff from Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) observes from residents almost every single day.

What they don’t see everyday is someone paying back fines roughly 40 years later.

Staff from MCPL received a check from a former Rockville resident in the amount of $1,552.30. The resident explained in the letter that he found two books while cleaning some of his parent’s things and realized they were never returned.

The overdue books came from the Library in Twinbrook titled, “The New Way of the Wilderness,” by Calvin Rutsrum and “365 Meatless Main Dishes,” by William Kaufman.
