Longtime Radio Voice of Washington’s NFL Team Abruptly Retires
Just three days after firing two members of their personnel department and two days after announcing that they will change the team’s controversial name, the Washington NFL team’s tumultuous offseason continued Wednesday. The team’s longtime radio play-by-play announcer, Larry Michael, abruptly announced his retirement via a statement.
Michael, who was raised in Silver Spring and attended Northwood High School, was the voice of the team for the past 16 seasons. He was also the team’s chief content officer and the senior vice president of television, radio and digital content.
“After 16 great years my time with the organization is over. As of today I’ll be retiring from my position with the team,” Michael said in his statement. “As a lifelong Washingtonian I was blessed to work with a lot of great people. I want to thank everyone who contributed over the years. I’m especially grateful to Dan Snyder for giving me the opportunity. On to the next chapter.”

The team has yet to comment on Michael’s retirement.
The unexpected announcement continues the chaotic offseason for Washington’s pro football team. Several members of the local and national media have hinted on social media for days that more unflattering news about the organization will break soon.
