Local Seniors Give Back to Families in Need (PHOTOS)

Residents at Ingleside at King Farm (IKF) have been giving their time, resources, and a lot of heart by volunteering at the Interfaith Clothing Center (ICC), a program at Interfaith Works in Rockville. ICC provides low-income families with free clothing and home goods, which allows them to use more of their resources on food, rent, utilities, and other basic needs.

gerane_bj-diggsIKF residents have been volunteering at ICC for more than a year, and each month they make baby layettes, which are gifted to underprivileged mothers in Montgomery County.

Recently, ICC moved to a new part of their building, donated to them by the county. They wanted a designated children’s area for families who come to the center for various programs, and a mural be painted on a large wall in the room. Although many local volunteer groups offered to paint the wall, ICC selected IKF residents to do the job.

The design was led by Muriel Ebitz, an amazing artist and an IKF resident. Muriel decided on balloons for the wall, floating up in the sky, and she helped in all aspects of the project- from choosing and mixing the paint colors, to her thoughtful attention to detail as she, and other resident volunteers, painted in the many penciled balloons.

“I’ve been volunteering all my life, and have always valued being able to give back to the community. Being part of this project at Interfaith, which combines my love for art and helping those in need, was very rewarding,” said Muriel. “It was a true team effort from the staff and contractors at Interfaith, to the dedicated group from Ingleside.”

The relationship with ICC and IKF extends beyond the residents- senior leadership also volunteer at ICC as part of their “days of service” throughout the year.
