Local Residents Weigh-in on Inauguration at Denizens in Silver Spring
Residents and even some visitors from Chicago, gathered at Denizens Brewing Company in Silver Spring early Friday to watch the Inauguration.
Back in November, some onlookers imagined this day would turn out differently.
“It’s a very depressing day,” said Denizens customer Matthew, who didn’t feel comfortable giving his last name. “I’m surprised he’s[Donald Trump] our president. It’s the second most surprising thing that has ever happened in my life.”
“I’m here to protest. It’s an anti-inauguration party,” said Paul Hurwitz, resident, Montgomery County. “I didn’t vote for him but he is our president so we have to respect the office and we have to hope that he does better than what people thinks he’s going to do.”
There’s a reason that many of today’s customers are not Trump supporters.
“We understand a lot of our customers were not super happy about the outcome of the election so we wanted to have a place where folks can come and watch the Inauguration,” said Emily Bruno, owner, Denizens Brewing Company.
Denizens, whose regular business hours are typically 12 p.m.-1 a.m. daily, opened its doors a bit earlier for customers.
Bruno says a percentage of the profits made from Friday’s sales will support Ayuda, a local non-profit who serves immigrants in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.
They will also host another fundraiser over the weekend based on a brand new brew.
“We made a beer called ‘Woman, You Nasty!’ It’s a porter with Mexican spiced chocolate,” said Bruno.
A Nasty Woman party will be held at Denizens on Saturday after the Women’s March on Washington.
A percentage of sales from Denizens on Saturday and Sunday will be donated to support Planned Parenthood.
