Local English School Searching For Host Families in Montgomery County

Montgomery County families have a chance to host exchange students from all over the world.

Education FirstEF International Language Center, an English school located in Takoma DC, is searching for host families from July 12 to August 15 or more.

“We are a year-round school and we’re always looking for host families,” said Liz Hallett, host family coordinator at EF International Language Center.

According to Hallett, school officials prefer families to be located within one hour of Takoma where there is access to public transportation.

Hallett said families in Rockville, Silver Spring, Kensington, and Takoma Park participate in the program. Exchange students come from all over the world and represent more than 50 countries.

EF officials visit family’s home to make sure student and family are fully satisfied by their home arrangement. Each family can host from three to four weeks or more, according to Hallett.

The school also offers a stipend and EF travel discounts. Families can earn up to $920 a month as host and get $100 when referring a new family.

“We have an application process. We check and make sure it’s a safe place for our students,” Hallett said.

Besides English classes, the school also offers special interest lessons such as politics, anthropology, American culture and more.
