Local Communities to Honor State Sen. Jennie Forehand (VIDEO)

Rockville, Gaithersburg and Garrett Park invite you to a celebration of Maryland state Sen. Jennie Forehand, thanking her for her service as a representative of our communities.

Forehand is scheduled to be honored at an open house on Oct. 19, from 1-5 p.m. at Glenview Mansion in Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive.

Forehand served nearly 36 years representing District 17 in the Maryland General Assembly and is to retire early next year after nine terms in office.

“Every day was exciting because it was always something new,” said Forehand, a resident of Woodley Gardens since 1962 who completed her final legislative session in office in April. “And you always met new people every day and learned what they were doing. And put that in the mix and I think Maryland is a great place to live.”

Forehand’s accomplishments include working to get Montgomery County Public Schools to turn over the former Woodley Gardens Elementary School to the city after the school closed in the early 1980s. It became the Rockville Senior Center. Since then, Forehand has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars for the center’s expansion, including an addition and new fitness center completed in 2012.

“It makes me feel so good to have known so many people who are out there making a difference,” she said.
