Local Artist Solo Art Show in Rockville
A Cuban-born artist is scheduled to have a solo art showcase on Dec. 14 featuring approximately 70 paintings at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville.
Jorge Luis Bernal, a Rockville resident, has worked on these pieces the past six years.
“I describe my art as abstract expressionism. They are feelings, emotions and stories represented graphically. Color is the most important element. I hope to establish a visual dialogue between my work and the viewers. An awareness if not an understanding of the message,” Bernal said.
Bernal took arts classes in college but decided to become an architect graduating in 1971. The love for art, however, was stronger.
“I practiced for many years in Miami and Venezuela. [I] went back to school … and got a [Bachelor of Fine Arts] in history and ceramics. In 1990, [I] started teaching art, design and architecture,” Bernal said.
Bernal added he relates to the “Horizon series” separating sky and earth or water.
“My narrative is about life, about having goals and objectives and how we reach them or not. The difficulties we encounter and how they are overcome,” he added.
The artist reception is open to the public. Visit Bernal’s website to find out more.
