Literary Luncheon Series Returns on Oct. 16

Friends of the Library Montgomery CountyLocal authors John Gilstrap and Grady Smith are scheduled to appear at the Friends of the Library’s 27th annual Literary Luncheon Series when it returns at the Strathmore Mansion, 10701 Rockville Pike, on October 16 in North Bethesda.

Gilstrap, a bestselling author and screenwriter, will present his nonfiction book “Six Minutes to Freedom.”

Smith, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel is the author of “Blood Chit” set during the Vietnam War.

FOLMC is partnering with the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival, www.fscottfestival.org, to present the program with the theme of war and literature. The public is invited to visit FOLMC’s F. Scott Fitzgerald window display at its Rockville book store in the Randolph Hills Shopping Center at 4886 Boiling Brook Pkwy.

On Thursday, November 20, historian Ida E. Jones will discuss her book, “Mary McLeod Bethune in Washington, DC: Activism and Education in Logan Circle.” Dr. Jones is the national director of the Association of Black Women Historians.

Lectures begin at 11:30 a.m. and are followed by a book signing and luncheon at 12:30 p.m.

Books will be available for purchase. Tickets start at $12 for FOLMC and Strathmore members and $17 for non-members. Lunch can be purchased for an added charge.

Proceeds benefit FOLMC whose mission is to support and enhance Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL). The Literary Luncheon Series is funded in part by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

FOLMC is a 32-year-old non-profit membership organization with 17 chapters dedicated to enhancing and promoting public libraries through fundraising and advocacy efforts. FOLMC operates two award-winning used book stores in Rockville and Wheaton.
