Lily Pads Abloom

Passersby are talking about the beautiful lily pad bloom at Inspiration Lake in the community of Kentlands in Gaithersburg.

The lily pads, also known as Water Lotus, are covering almost the entire lake.

Gaithersburg’s Public Works Director James Arnoult said the plants were probably introduced to the lake by water fowl and are not invasive.

“It is my understanding that the plant is beneficial to water quality and provides habitat for wildlife such as fish and amphibians,” said Arnoult in an email.

The blooming water plants made an appearance last summer too.
