Levine-Sisson Named New Education Director at BlackRock in Germantown

BlackRock Center for the Arts announces the appointment of Jillian Levine-Sisson as their new Director of Education. Levine-Sisson has worked for many years in the DC area with numerous arts organizations, most recently Round House Theatre in Silver Spring.

Levine-Sisson served for five years as the Education and Outreach Program Manager for Round House Theatre in Silver Spring, where she managed 11 education programs for Round House’s Education and Outreach Department, including in-school residencies, after-school programs, performance programs for teens and seniors, a variety of classes for youth and adults, and Spring Break and Summer camps. She has developed curriculum, hired and partnered with teaching artists, and grown education programs for all ages, including adults. Levine-Sisson has led numerous workshops and classes as a teaching artist and instructor for Imagination Stage, Shakespeare Theatre, Arena Stage and area schools. She received her bachelor’s degree in Drama from Kenyon College and her Masters of Education in Arts in Education from Harvard.

BlackRock’s arts education programming provides creative, affordable, and diverse classes in a nurturing, positive, and safe learning environment. Classes include dance, music, theater, and visual arts for children and adults, as well as summer and spring break arts camps for school-aged children. BlackRock currently offers approximately 80 arts classes per week to more than 400 students per session, as well as after-school outreach programs in three additional locations around the county. Each season BlackRock offers classes in dance, theatre, visual arts and music – as well as popular one-day workshops – for adults. BlackRock’s community engagement activities include workshops, master classes, open rehearsals, artist discussions and other special events that support performance and gallery programming, enhance the community’s arts experiences, and promote discovery, exploration, appreciation and personal or professional development.
