On Nov.9, the Unity Christian Fellowship (UCF), a youth development organization celebrated its 7th Annual Scholarship Dinner at the Gaithersburg Hilton.
Organizers said the highlight of the evening was the keynote speaker. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett shared his personal story of overcoming his poor upbringing in Louisiana and how his Church raised $12 to help with his school expenses. Leggett talked about how he went on to excel in college to earn an undergraduate degree and several advanced degrees including a law degree.
The annual event attracted 225 well-wishers who celebrated the success of positive youth development in the county. UCF is a non-profit community based youth development organization that impacts more than 600 young people and their families in Montgomery County annually.
Founded by Mona and Donald Williams in 2007, the organization’s mission is to encourage and help disadvantaged and minority students and young adult parents reach their highest potential.
