Leggett Honored for Work to Improve Child Well Being

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett was selected to receive the “Time Well Spent on Behalf of Montgomery’s Children” award by the Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families, Inc. (CCCYF) at its annual Community Celebration held on Nov. 6. This award is presented annually to select individuals or organizations for their outstanding contribution to the mission and work of the Collaboration Council.

It is an honor to receive this recognition from the Collaboration Council. Our children are our greatest resource. As we make the family stronger and the children stronger, we make our community stronger, and our nation as a whole stronger,” said Leggett.

Leggett was selected to receive the award this year in recognition, among other things, of his Positive Youth Development Initiative. Created as a cross-agency approach, this initiative was designed to create a supportive, violence-free community for children, youth and families, treating them with dignity and giving them opportunities to realize their full potential. The Collaboration Council also noted the Leggett administration’s commitment to broadening the range of out-of-school opportunities and services that help children, especially those from less affluent families, realize their full potential and prepare for a lifetime of learning. The Excel Beyond the Bell program was highlighted as a successful program that Leggett has committed to expanding to all middle schools in the County.

“Ike Leggett’s values and priorities have enabled the Collaboration Council to succeed in its own mission of building partnerships for improved child well-being,” said Montgomery County CCCYF Board of Directors Chair Dolores Kozloski. “He has stood by his commitment to our children, youth and families even in the most difficult times. Ike has been an ardent advocate with the State and federal governments for funding and policies that will create quality lives for our children and youth.”

The “Time Well Spent on Behalf of Montgomery’s Children” award was also presented to Diego Uriburo, executive director of Identity and Lorre Polinger, president of the Howard and Geraldine Polinger Family Foundation.
