Leggett Celebrates County Day of Recognition for National Service

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is joining mayors and county executives across the nation to celebrate the service of more than 75,000 AmeriCorps members and 330,000 Senior Corps volunteers, by proclaiming April 7 as the third annual County Day/Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service.

It is a nationwide initiative led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the National League of Cities and Cities of Service, with a goal to highlight the impact national service has on tackling local problems and managing volunteers for greater impact.

“This annual day of recognition is a perfect opportunity for jurisdictions to thank our national service members for their commitment to serving their communities,” said Leggett. “On this day, we spotlight the impact of national service and encourage all of our citizens to give back to their communities.”

In Montgomery County, national service is represented by AmeriCorps and VISTA members and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers.
