UPDATED: Montgomery County Government Closed Jan. 25
UPDATE Jan. 24, 1:47 p.m. Montgomery County Government is closed, Monday, Jan. 25 as clean up from the blizzard continues.
Essential personnel must report at their regularly scheduled times. County facilities, other than Public Safety facilities, are closed.
County-provided recycling and trash collections for Monday, Jan. 25 have been cancelled. Residents should not take their trash cans and recycling bins to the curb.
According to a news release, the County ‘s priority is to first clear 1,000 mile of emergency and primary roads, before focusing crews on 4,000 lane neighborhoods.
“Now that the snow has ended, our efforts shift to clean-up and snow removal,” said County Executive Ike Leggett said. “County crews will continue to work around the clock until we have completed our efforts,” he said.
Montgomery County officials also note that one challenge crews are facing is that in many places snow needs to be hauled out instead of just pushed to the side. Officials say that clean-up efforts take days.

Original Jan. 22, 4:08 p.m. Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is declaring a general emergency effective from noon, Friday, Jan. 22 to midnight, Sunday, Jan. 24.
The declaration is in accordance the Montgomery County Personnel Regulations and because of the forecasted blizzard.
According to a news release, Montgomery County facilities, except for public safety facilities, will be closed during the general emergency. Essential personnel are still expected to report to work at regularly scheduled times.
