Latino High School Students Honored (PHOTO)

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation, which was established by the White House in 1987, recently honored 21 Latino high school seniors from the Washington, D.C., region at its 16th Annual D.C. Regional Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards, with six of those coming from Montgomery County.

On Jan. 20, four of them came to the County Council to be recognized.

At the ceremonies, left to right: Antonio Tijerino of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation; Diego Zarate of Northwest High School in Germantown; County Council President George Leventhal; Jenna Ramirez of Blake High School in Silver Spring; Emily Samuels of Gaithersburg High School; and Jessica Statler of the Academy of the Holy Cross.
