Lakelands Entrance Damaged in Car Ax (Photos)

UPDATED 3/27/13
lakelands7The stone monument marker at the entrance of the Lakelands community was damaged by a car in the pre-dawn hours of March 2.

According to Officer Dan Lane of the Gaithersburg Police Department, the accident was reported at 4:03 a.m. at the intersection of Lakelands Drive and Great Seneca Highway.

“A mustang left the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with the retaining wall,” Lane said.

According to Lane, the driver, a 31-year-old male from Gaithersburg, was not injured.

In an email on March 26, Lane wrote that the driver was cited with two traffic charges: “failure to control speed to avoid a collision and failure of vehicle driver to stop after unattended property damage accident.”

Initially, Lane provided information in an email on March 4 that the driver of the vehicle “was charged with driving under the influence.”

When asked what changed, Lane said: “Based on the evidence, the investigating officer decided to charge with the other two charges versus the initial. During an investigation, evidence or information provided determines how to file for charges and that is what has happened in this case.”
