Keeping Your Keys: To Drive, or Not to Drive?

The Montgomery County Recreation’s Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center is hosting an event where residents will learn more about seniors and driving.

Senior Citizen Woman Driving in ProfileThe “Keeping Your Keys: To Drive, or Not to Drive?”conversation will take place on October 22 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

“One of the largest problems, in the big umbrella topic, is transportation,” said Helen Abrahams, director at the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center.

The talk will have two keynote speakers: Judith Goldstein, chief of Low Vision & Rehabilitation Services, Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Timothy Jones, certified driving rehabilitation specialist.

Abrahams has been working with seniors for more than 30 years. She met Jones when her husband had to cut back on driving.

“And I said ‘One day I’m going to do a program [in the center] … And I was able to get him,” Abrahams said.

Pre-registration is required, but the event is free. Call 240.777.8086. The center is located at 1000 Forest Glen Road in Silver Spring.

“It’s a very large problem. … But between the two of them the topic should be covered,” she said.
