Jessup Man Dies in Beltway Crash

A Jessup man died on the Capital Beltway on Thursday night after his car struck the rear of a tractor trailer, Maryland State Police reported.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Reza Zati dead at the scene, on the Inner Loop at Seminary Road, police said.

According to a state police statement, Zati was traveling a high rate of speed in a 2004 Honda Civic when he rear ended a truck driven by Syed Talib Raza of Manassas, Virginia.

Raza was driving at the posted speed limit a 2012 Volvo semi truck and pulling a trailer, police said.

After hitting the trailer, the Civic continued until striking the B pillar, the support that separates the front and rear passengers of the car, police said.

After the impact, Raza pulled the truck to the right shoulder.
