JennyCakes Bakery in Kensington Closing Its Doors

JennyCakes Bakery in Kensington is closing after over eight years of selling baked goods to the community.

In a letter to her customers, Jennifer Smith, the owner of JennyCakes, wrote that the expansion of the business led to increased complexity regarding staffing, orders, and other logistics. The time it took to deal with these things took time away from her family and children and added extra stress according to Smith.

“So I know in my heart, it is time for me to transition into a new stage. But I sincerely hope this isn’t “goodbye”. I love baking for people and plan to give some of my bakery equipment a new home in my finished basement,” wrote Smith.

She added that she wants to continue baking for small pop-up sales as well as for local shelters.

The bakery is currently closed through August 17 but will remain open until September 19 with different hours. Retail sales and order pickups will take place from Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The website post says that the bakery is still accepting cake orders but that the menu is scaled back slightly.

Updates will be posted on Facebook and Instagram so customers know what the bakery is offering each week.
