Jeanette Dixon to Run Against Phil Kauffman in November School Board Race (PHOTO)
UPDATED April 27, 1:45 p.m. Jeanette Dixon will go head-to-head with Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) incumbent Phil Kauffman for the Board’s At-Large seat in November’s general election, according to Primary Election day results.
Results posted on the State Board of Elections website, indicate that Dixon, retired Paint Branch High School principal, lead in the primary race with 31.4 percent of the vote, in a five candidate race.
Kauffman, who has served on the Board for two terms and is a former Olney PTA leader, was not far behind with 27.9 percent of the vote. Kauffman had won the early vote, but Dixon received more votes on election day.
“I was very gratified by the results, actually thrilled to finish first among the five candidates,” Dixon told MyMCMedia. “I think definitely the message was sent that people are looking for change,” she said.
Sebastian Johnson, a former Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB), came in third with 17.9 percent of the vote. Johnson’s campaign had raised a considerable amount of funds for the race compared to other candidates. Candidates Gwendolyn Love Kimbrough and Mike Ibanez received 11.8 percent and 11 percent of the vote respectively.

A big THANK YOU to all those who voted for me in the BOE primary allowing me to finish first and advance to the general election in Nov.
